The frisbee overshoots Francine.
"Sorry!" Jake says.
Francine goes to pick up the frisbee from where it's landed in the grass. "Gross!" she says, looking down at it.
Jake jogs over. "What's the matter?"
"It just landed here a second ago and already there's a bug on it. Sometimes I think the lake is disgusting," Francine says, pointing at a small yellowish winged creature sitting in the middle of the white disc (which Jake got from an armed forces recruiting center when he was in high school--on it is a cartoon of a mermaid and a parrot wearing a navy hat, and the slogan "Sailors Have More Fun" interspersed with two anchors, and Jake has always wondered if the mermaid and the parrot are supposed to be dating, and how that might inspire someone to join the navy).
Jake looks at the bug, "It's a midge. People also call them muckleheads. There are tons of them around here this time of year."
"I thought those were mayflies."
"No, mayflies are bigger."
"I like living near a large body of fresh water, but the things that come out of there are scary. I think they're mutants from all the pollution."
"I guess I grew up here all my life so they just seem normal to me," Jake says, looking out to the lake.
"That's because you're a mutant, Dear."
Jake wrestles Francine into the grass. They laugh and embrace.
"Yuck!" Francine says and gets up.
"What?"
"I just rolled over a bunch of those dead bugs. This park is nice but it looks better from far away than close up."
"A lot of things do," Jake says, thinking of love.
Francine raises her eyebrows, "What's that supposed to mean?"
"But you, my Dear, look even better the closer I get."
"Nice save," Francine says, and they kiss, with some insects along for the ride.
