Blog Love Omega Glee: A Coffeehouse Conversation About Ley Lines And Rock And Roll (5 June 2012)

While at Caffeine Eden, Jake nearly chokes on his coffee.

"What's the matter?" Francine says, looking up from the book she's reading, the latest by journalist Greg Palast.

Jake looks at the entrance of the coffeehouse. Francine follows his gaze through the crowd of chatterers and coffeedrinkers to see that Larry has arrived.

"Oh, no. Well, if we're lucky Tom won't show up," Francine says, turning back to Jake.

Jake points to the entrance.

Tom has arrived. The two old men approach the counter and order their brews from Adam.

"What do you think they'll talk about today? Aliens? The Masons?" Francine says, taking a sip of her Junebug Java.

"Who knows?" Jake says, looking around, "I think we'll be lucky today. There are no empty tables near us."

A couple at a table near Francine and Jake's gets up and leaves.

"Great," Jake says.

A few moments later Tom and Larry sit down at the empty table. They say hello to Francine and Jake, who nod in return.

Larry plays with the hair coming out of his nose, and says, "Hey, have you kids been to that rock museum downtown?"

Francine and Jake nod and then pretend to be immersed in the books they were reading (Jake's is a biography of the wrestler George "The Animal" Steele).

"Who would want to see a museum full of rocks?" Tom says, taking a drink of coffee.

"A geologist probably," Larry says, "But I'm talking about rock music."

"Oh, rock and roll. You kids still like rock and roll, right?" Tom says to Francine and Jake, who nod and then return to their books.

Their reading doesn't deter Larry, who continues to address them and Tom, "So, you know how the building looks weird?"

"It's like a pyramid, right?" Tom says.

"Yeah, yeah, that's right. Well, that's because it's an obvious Masonic symbol. They built it on a ley line crossing to harness the energy of the Earth and channel it into their occult activities."

"They built it on lovelines?"

"No, ley lines."

"What's a ley line? Is that a musical term?"

"No, no, they're like lines of energy in the Earth. Like magnetic. You can dowse water more easily with them too and stuff, if you know where they are."

"Where are they?"

"They're everywhere, Tom. And, if you build things in accordance with them, you get energy flowing the right way."

"Like an oil pipeline?"

"More like feng shui."

"Is that a type of Chinese coffee? Is that what the special is today?"

"No, I think it's Jade Junebug or something," Larry says, taking a sip, "It's pretty good. Feng shui is like arranging things so energy can flow."

"Like an oil pipeline!"

"No, well, yeah, but it's spiritual energy, not, you know, fossil gunk."

"Fossil gunk! Is that what I should call what's coming out of me after I drink this coffee? I'm an old fossil. Ha! Hey, kids, wait until you get old!"

Francine and Jake nod, finish their drinks, and start to get up.

"It was nice talking with you," Larry says, as they leave.

"Kids today are so boring compared to when we were young," Tom says, watching Francine and Jake go out the door, "I blame it on the fact that their music sucks."

"Hey, do you want to go play some classic rock records backwards for Satanic messages after this?" Larry says, excited.
