Blog Love Omega Glee: Pit Bull Continental Breakfast (26 February 2012)

Jake is going down the stairs to the continental breakfast when he sees a pit bull tied to the railing in front of the room the continental breakfast is in. Jake pauses on the stairs. He sure is hungry. The continental breakfast sure is free, or at least already paid for in his hotel bill. He looks at the pit bull. It looks friendly enough. He proceeds down the stairs. The pit bull stares at him and barks. Jake decides he can wait until lunch to eat.

"Wake up Jake! Are you going to sleep all the way until tomorrow?" Jake hears as he's shaken awake by his sister Winifred, her long brown hair dangling in front of her face.

"Huh?" Jake says, "Did you go down to the continental breakfast?"

Winifred steps back, "Continental breakfast? It's almost four in the afternoon. What are you talking about? I just wanted to say goodbye before I left, and I can't wait any longer. Mom's freaking out about how it's starting to snow and I'll be driving partway in the dark as it is."

"Huh? Winnie?" Jake says and sits up in bed, "Sorry, I was dreaming I was at a hotel somewhere and there was a pit bull guarding the continental breakfast."

"You're such a weirdo. Did you wrestle it for the last pancake or something?"

"No, I don't know. It didn't make any sense. In the part before that I was having sex with the ghost of Margaret Thatcher."

"Gross, don't tell me anymore. I might be bringing a friend back next month for my visit. Don't sleep all day if you want to meet her. Do you always sleep this late? Don't you have to get up for work?"

"Yes, I always sleep this late. No, I don't have to work tonight. Mike, the other overnight disc jockey at WCYA, needs someone to cover his Tuesday to Wednesday shift so he swapped a shift with me. So I can sleep in today."

"I'll say. Well go back to bed. I've got to go bro."

"Be careful driving."

"Take care of Mom and Dad."

"I will."

After Winifred leaves, Jake goes back to sleep. He can't remember any more dreams when he wakes again, but it's dark out. He can see out the window that it's snowing. Even on nights off, Jake stays up all night now. "I'm like a vampire," he thinks.

He sits up and turns on a light. Tucking a pillow behind his back, he picks up the book he's reading, the new one by Jack Giorno, a former professional wrestler turned professional writer. Giorno dropkickstarted his writing career with the usual wrestling biography, except instead of using a ghostwriter, he wrote it himself. After that, he started writing a series of detective novels, starring a former pro wrestler turned private investigator called Gian Notte. The bad part of having a job is having to show up for work; the good part of it is having money again to buy silly stuff like the new Gian Notte novel called Murder From The Top Rope. When Jake left off, Gian Notte was hanging by his fingertips off a cliff after being hit from behind by a mysterious assailant. Jake can't wait to see what happens next.
